Todays Angel Flight was an early one, we departed Home Base Luray at 6:55 am heading for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton PA where we picked up our passenger, Adeline. We had hugs and was presented with treats from Adeline (Thank You So Much Adeline !) After some photos with Adeline and her Husband we departed Scranton. From there we flew Adeline west across the Pennsylvania Mountains to Franklin PA. The flight up to Scranton at 7000 feet was severe clear and smooth (Visibility was tremendous…. we could see the sunrise reflecting off of the Atlantic 150 miles away !) The flight over to Franklin at 8000 feet was very smooth with a fairly strong headwind of around 20 knots average. Our great visibility decreased as the morning went on due mainly to haze. We arrived at Franklin at 11:05 am (Ahead of Schedule) This was leg one of three for Adeline’s flight to Chicago IL. Robb, Adeline’s Pilot to Ann Arbor MI had just landed about 5 minutes ahead of us. After some great conversation with Robb and our goodbyes to Adeline, they departed on their way to Ann Arbor MI where Pilot number three (Michael Baraz) would continue to Chicago to finish the mission. Normally John and I have our lunch in the Airplane on our way back home (We call them picnics in the Air ! ….. we have had these picnics in all kinds of weather and over all kind of places…. we have even had picnics in the air while in the outer layers of Hurricanes)….. but today we made an exception, the Airport at Franklin has a very nice restaurant onsite (Primo Barone’s) which had on the menu…. Reuben’s !!!! …. and we had to have one so that we could rate it ! …. (John and I both are connoisseurs of Reuben’s…. we have had them all over the Country while flying) So instead of our picnic while flying home, we had a Reuben…. and they did not disappoint ! (Very, very good and will for sure find a place near the top of our list !) We departed Franklin at 12:30 and headed home. The flight home at 7000 feet had a good tailwind and varying degrees of turbulence (much more over the Mountains of WVA). We landed back at home base, Luray a little after 1400 on runway 22. I snuggly tucked 49 Bravo back into her hanger while John made us some wonderful coffee…. both of us looking forward as always to our next flight !
Total flight time this Angel Fight was 5.4 hours covering 572 miles over 4 States. This was Angel Flight Number 357 for Captain John and Angel Flight Number 243 for myself (Nevin)….. Hope you enjoy the pictures
