Angel Flight, Wednesday August 3rd, 2022… Julianna returns home from Victory Junction Camp!

What a beautiful day it was to fly (actually any day that ends in “Y” qualifies)!

On this mission, Sharon and I flew down to Greensboro, NC, where Karen and I had been Saturday seeing 12-year-old Julianna off to Victory Junction Camp. This time our job was to fly her safely back home to meet her dad at Manassas Airport. It was a very hot day, but our flight conditions were fantastic, with an occasional bump or two as we poked holes through some clouds. Julianna had a really great time at Victory Junction and indicated that she is really looking forward to going back next year. She told us two of her favorite activities while there were the Zip Line and playing Pool Basketball. This experience made for a great opportunity for her to meet others going through some of the same type of medical issues she deals with, and this is one of the things that make Victory Junction Camp so wonderful!

At Manassas, her dad came in with a treat that Nolan, their son had made for us, it was a very delicious chocolate-fudge type cake that has already been reduced down in size to just one little piece! Thank you so much Nolan for this amazing treat, we all really enjoyed it! After our goodbyes, Sharon and I departed Manassas and headed home. It was really great having Sharon (my wife) along as my assistant on this mission. She absolutely loves to fly, but this is the first time ever she had been along on an Angel Flight!

As we were touching down back at homebase, the feeling I had of knowing how Captain John especially loved doing Angel Flights for children, getting them to and from special camps, made me feel as if he was right there landing with us, with that special smile he always had, and saying mission complete! Then we would always say, now for the most dangerous part of our day, the drive home!

Thank you again for following my flights as I carry on the legacy of my great friend, Captain John, tomorrow, August 7th, would have been his 99th Birthday!
